Climate risk infrastructure for lenders and asset managers
We price climate risk per borrower, build cover into the loan through licensed insurers, watch the weather and settle payouts automatically. You keep lending to climate-exposed borrowers.

The problem
Climate shocks drive defaults. Credit models can't see them.
Lenders serving traders, farmers and small businesses carry weather risk they cannot price or pass on.
Shocks hit repayment first
A week of extreme rain closes a market stall, and the borrower misses the next repayment. Default follows the weather, not the credit file.
Lenders pull back
Without a way to price or pass on climate risk, lenders stop serving the traders, farmers and small businesses who need credit most.
Insurance is too slow and too costly
Traditional cover needs claims, adjusters and weeks of paperwork. For a five-day working capital loan, that cost and delay make it unusable.
What we provide
One infrastructure, four services.
Start with cover on your loans, or plug all four into your lending and portfolio workflows.
Parametric Insurance
Cover built into every loan
We build parametric climate cover into your loan products through licensed insurers. When verified rainfall crosses a set threshold, the payout reduces the borrower's loan balance automatically. Nobody files a claim.
- Cover issued with each loan at origination
- Pricing and triggers set per borrower location
- Payouts settle automatically, with an auditable record
- Risk carried by licensed insurers, not by you
Early Warning & Alerts
Know when risk moves on your book
We monitor the locations you finance against trigger thresholds and climate risk scores, and push alerts straight into your systems when something changes.
- Rainfall trigger monitoring for insured locations
- Alerts when a location's risk score shifts
Climate Rating
Scores for every borrower and business
Score any business or loan book on climate hazards: flood, drought, heat, storm, coastal and wildfire. Upload a portfolio or call the API at the point of decision.
- Climate-hazard scores from satellite data
- Loan-book upload with portfolio analytics
- API integration for credit workflows
Resilience Assessments
Hazard assessments for every asset
Assess each site's exposure to climate hazards, so you know which assets are at risk and from what.
- Asset-level climate-hazard assessment
- Scores from satellite data for each asset location
How it works
Built to sit inside the lending stack you already run.
You keep lending your way. We handle pricing, triggers, monitoring and payouts.
Connect
Send borrower or asset locations by API or upload a loan book. No new system for your loan officers to learn.
Assess
We score each location on climate hazards from satellite data and price cover per borrower.
Monitor
We watch insured and financed locations and alert your systems when triggers fire or risk shifts.
Act
Payouts settle automatically against loan balances, and scores feed straight into pricing and approval.
Why BlockBima
Built for digital lenders and asset managers.
Fast enough for a five-day loan, rigorous enough for an auditor.
API-first
Scores, cover and alerts are available over a documented API and webhooks, so they plug into loan origination and portfolio systems at decision speed. Full API documentation is shared on integration.
Automatic payouts
Parametric triggers remove the claims process. In our pilot every payout settled automatically, in under 24 hours, with an auditable record.
Honest about gaps
When the data cannot support a number, we say so rather than fill the gap. Every score carries its sources and coverage.
Built in Kenya
Hazard models and rainfall triggers are built and tested on East African data, for the markets our clients lend in.
Proven in the field
Loans that hold when the rains don't.
In 2025 we built parametric cover into five-day working capital loans of about KES 5,000 for informal market traders in Nairobi.
60% lower climate-linked default among covered borrowers than an uninsured control group.
Fortune Credit, a licensed digital MSME lender, ran the loans. RiskShield designed the index, triggers and pricing, and Shamba Network supplied the rainfall data. Payouts triggered on five extreme rainfall days and reduced borrowers' loan balances with no claims process. Fortune Credit lent to traders it had previously turned down, unlocking USD 12,000 in credit for previously unbanked women borrowers in six months.

For lenders
Keep lending when the rains don't. Let's build cover into your loans.
We'll show you how embedded cover would work on a slice of your own book. Fortune Credit kept 77% of climate-hit borrowers repaying while the wider market defaulted at around 40%.
